Lessons from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

When you train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the person that throws you on the floor, pins you down, lies on your chest, bends your extremities into unnatural positions, and eventually chokes you is called your partner.

Why? Because they teach you how to find balance, yield to their force and use it as your own. They show you your limits and invite you to recognize them, communicate them, and stretch them. They give you everything you need to grow, to get better, to become great.

The whole time you know they are playing their own game. It’s nothing personal. Behind all the aggression and struggle, there is deep respect. There is connection.

It’s very easy to love your partners.

P.S. Same is true for life.
